Pictures are never going to be able to convey the beauty of what we saw today. Traveling from Oregon, California to Nevada took my breath away. We started our day at the Medford Fairgrounds where a major Quarter Horse Horse Show was happening. We joined them for a wonderful cowboy breakfast hosted by the local FFA. Such sweet kids...and since the sixteen year old is also in FFA we were delighted to support them!
We walked our breakfast off looking at the stunning horses being prepared for the day.
Then we looked at some dream horse trailers. Unbelievable!
We left Medford around eleven, and then....magnificent Mt. Shasta captured us!

We saw Mt. Shasta from so many angles today...it was incredible!
Heading to Lake Tahoe we took Hwy 89 to Susanville toward Reno.
There were these amazing lakes of water and wetlands along the way.
And every once in a while the big guy would spot a car that really caught his eye. This was one - a Corvette Stingray. The only other detail the big guy could give is that it has a manual transmission. Ok, that would be random!
We encountered two rather interesting Lakes on this drive - Poison Lake, and Honey Lake, pictured above. I enjoy researching things like this but these two proved hard for me. All I could find out is that the water in Poison Lake is undrinkable - duh, and that evaporation reduces Honey Lake to an alkali flat hence the brown lake. Remarkably both seem to have fish...but can you eat them?
We found this wonderful little church in Doyle CA where we stopped trying to find a local place to eat. There isn't one.
But there is this very wonderful old grocery hotel there which we very much enjoyed discovering. Loved the gas pump, and wondered about the stories this building could tell. Since we couldn't find a place to dine we pulled off the road and made chicken quesidilla's to get us to our next stop - Reno.

Enjoying your blog posts. Love the picture of the horses all looking the same way :) Always enjoy seeing pictures of Shasta. 3 times God has blessed me with a view of the world from on top of that mountain.
