World Equestrian Games

I can't tell you how many hours we have watched the World Equestrian Games this week, and they were incredible! One of my favorite riders was Rodrigo Pessoa of Brazil - and here I thot he was just a saddle. He and his horse Rebozo took fourth.

The World Equestrian Games are the world championships of eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and are held every four years. This was the first time it has ever been held in the United States.

After five days of competition, six different courses, and a total of 115 jumps, it was Belgium’s Philippe Le Jeune who took home the gold medal in the Rolex Top Four. This is a unique event in equestrian sports — each rider rides each of the four horses over the same course in, a true test of horsemanship.

The riders have three minutes to warm up with each horse and can jump two jumps before competing on the course. Each horse is accompanied to the ring by the groom, chef d’equipe and trainer. It was really something to see!
